My friend Monica just e-mailed me some pictures from back in the day. And she would probably kill me if she knew I was going to post them anywhere on the internet.
...The New Kids are heading back to the Block!
I was on the t.v. show Shear Genius (a hairstylist's knockoff of Project Runway) last week. Period. That's all I can say since Shear Genius will take $50,000 out of my pocket if I mention any more. And I very much like that wad of $50,000 sitting pretty in my back pocket- so my lips are sealed. But, I will say that I had my hair chopped off on national television and it was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I will elaborate eventually...
... Tim remembered me telling him of this crazy made-for-t.v. movie of Alice in Wonderland my mom had taped when I was a kid, and burned a copy of it at work for me. It was made in 1985 and it is one of the most bizarre movie versions of the classic story I have ever seen. I watched it many times as a kid, and watching it now I wonder how I managed to do that. The characters (other than little Alice) are MAD and somewhat terrifying and the Jabberwocky in the end is enough to give a small child a heart attack!
On Wednesday I may have died and gone to heaven and the members of Boyz II Men were there to meet me and harmonize with me at the Pearly Gates. Really, I was working as an audience member on the show Don't Forget the Lyrics. I had to painfully endure Brett Michaels of Poison (and Rock of Love) fame struggle through his "Hair Band" song selected for Celebrity Don't Forget the Lyrics. The light at the end of the tunnel came when three out of the four Boyz/Men hopped on stage to play the game and sing covers of some Motown classics.
Can I tell you how much I used to LOVE Boyz II Men? Only from here to infinity! The Christmas of 91' I squealed with joy when I found Cooleyhighharmony under the tree. At my 12th year birthday bash I played that cd on repeat and made my poor mom videotape me and my friends dance the electric slide to every single song. And to this day I still know all the lyrics to "Motown Philly."
So during the taping of this show my undying love and devotion was rekindled for the boys of Boyz II Men. Note this as one of the happiest days of my life. The only thing that would have made it better is if any of the gals from TLC busted in and sang a little "Creep" with a side of "Waterfalls." My head would have then exploded with hearts and rainbows.
Christmas was the bomb-diggity when we were younger! Here are some of my fave X-mas memories:
1) Waking up before mom and dad and sneaking to look at all the presents under the tree and looking in the stockings...by the way, it would take FOREVER for them to wake up!!!
2) Watching Lucky and Taffy play in the wrapping paper after the damage was done.
3) Finding our new Christmas Barbie that year from Aunt Jackie and Aunt Vicki
4) Being videotaped having to say thank you to every single person after a present was opened (by the way did they ever get that tape!?)
5) Staying up as late as I could to see if I could hear Santa bringing my presents in. I swear I heard him wheel in my 10-speed bike one year.
6) Decorating cookies and leaving them out for jolly, fat St. Nick
7) Shannon and I trying to guess what each of us had given each other for that year
8) Making Christmas dinner and Shannon suggesting that we sing "Happy Birthday Jesus." I was less then enthused but I went along with it anyway
9) Having all the X-mas decorations in the house, and watching all the cartoon X-mas specials
10) I still remember rushing to take stuff out of my stocking only to compare it to Shannon's stuff to make sure she got nothing better than me!!! ;)
